In celebration of Bastille Day, Paserene hosted the Wine and Clay event with Riccolah. The day offered an opportunity to enjoy tasting the Paserene Elements range while handcrafting a unique clay piece.
Riccolah Artisanal Ceramics is led by Ronet van der Walt, who has been working with clay and ceramics since 2012, starting small and perfecting her craft. Over time Ronet’s pieces took shape, developing into lively and spirited creations, ranging from delicate to rugged, inspired by Franschhoek’s mythical mountains and expansive skies. Riccolah now produces bespoke batches of decorative and functional ceramics, making each piece with care and attention, utilising colour, texture, and shape to create exclusive handmade pieces. Ronet also guides clay classes for you to express yourself through this tactile medium.
The creation of Riccolah ceramics has a surprising likeness to the creation of Paserene wines, with winemaker Martin Smith, describing himself as a precision winemaker, tinkering with his wines managing the tension between technicalities and intuition, balancing weight, colour and tannin, the result is a work of art.
With care, these handmade wines will age gracefully for years to come, gathering a lifetime of depth and character. Akin to an individually crafted piece of clay cherished through the years as a conversation starter.
The Wine and Clay event hosted by Paserene was an opportunity to get your hands dirty while tasting the Paserene Elements range of wines. The Elements Range symbolises the fun side of our wine estate in Franschhoek. Each bottle is unique and can easily shine through in a luxury wine tasting, while also being the perfect mid-week tipple. These wines are made from different elements from each of Paserene’s vineyards.
