We have officially completed our 2019 harvest, and what an eventful time we had! Now we have the opportunity to slow down and let the cellar magic begin. Our vines are enjoying a well-deserved break, and the cooler weather has come to remind us that winter is just around the corner and that red wine season is upon us!

Paserene Tasting Lounge Easter Treats

As we move towards the most beautiful time of the year in the Cape, why not spend a day relaxing in the Cape Winelands. At Paserene, we would be delighted to host you on your next visit to Franschhoek. Over the Easter weekend (19 – 22 April), we will be adding a specially curated tasting experience to our tasting lounge offering; pairing traditional South African Easter treats with our wine tasting. Think warm hot-cross buns with farm butter, and home-made kerrie-vis (pickled fish)! The Easter pairing costs R200pp and is available from 10am – 5pm, Friday 19th to Monday 22nd.

Bookings are recommended in order to offer the perfect Paserene experience. To make a booking, call us on +27 (21) 876 2714 or send us an email to billet@paserene.co.za.

Martin’s Harvest Report

Although the 2019 harvest will produce wines of character, it did not come without its challenges. It was off to an early start, the third week of January, and thereafter all cultivars seemed to ripen simultaneously. Following the initial rush to get everything into the cellar in time, what followed was a slower period that extended the harvest to be longer than expected.

Quality wise, we are pleased with the results this early on in the process. The fruit from Tulbagh and Elgin was again superlative, especially the Cabernets (we harvested some Cab from Elgin this year as well). There was a fair amount of rain during the harvest which meant we had to watch for rot and disease, but due to the positions of all of our vineyards we managed to come through unscathed. Some of the reds have been racked into barrel already, and we will keep you updated on the progress. But now it is time for a glass of wine!

Release Of Wren Wines

The petit range of Paserene, fondly known as Wren, will be launched in July. This range consist of Wren Bright (Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon / Chardonnay), Wren Rosie (Carignan / Mourvedre), and Wren Dark (Syrah), and all of the fruit is grown on our farm in Franschhoek or Tulbagh. These wines are the perfect mid-week companion, whilst waiting for your Paserene wines to mature. More information to follow.
