Carignan is a black-skinned red wine grape that is used to produce blended wines and single varietal wines. Carignan grapes are best grown in warmer climates where they will mature properly and will bud and ripen late for a fuller flavour.
Wine made from Carignan grapes is richly coloured, tannic, and has a slight acidity that makes it more popular for blending with other grapes. It has a dark purple colour turning crimson around the edges.
Paserene uses Carignan wine grapes in our Union 2016 and Rosie wines, and we source the Carignan grapes from our farm in Tulbagh.
